Signboard of Knuckles.

Signboard of Knuckles.

Knuckles is a western bistro serving up extremely affordable German food in a casual setting. The place is opened up by the same people of Nakhon Kitchen, a highly popular Thai restaurant just a few steps down from Knuckles. Knuckles is also situated near Hatter Street, a dessert/bakehouse. The place is really up-and-coming for great food & different cuisines.

Knuckles actually only opens after 7pm for dinner. As the clock strikes 7, the shutters of Knuckles go up, and the staff are quick to arrange the tables, including those outside the bistro before the eager crowd outside rushes in. (Don’t worry if the shutters are closed when it’s already 7. At times they open a bit later.) The whole interior is quite small, being situated in a residential block. They make full use of the space, adding just enough tables to maximise the rate of customers coming in, but leaving enough wiggle room to maneuver around.

The lighting of Knuckles is really dim, giving the whole place a bar/nightlife atmosphere. Not much decor is used in the place, just a few wall plants on faux pipelines and hanging exposed bulbs. It’s all very simple but it works great. The majority of furniture in Knuckles are the huge wooden tables that seemed to be crate boxes with “Knuckles” spray-painted on the side.

Food
Knuckles serves up extremely affordable German/Western food. Each main course only costs $8!! An extreme bargain, especially for their most popular item, which is the German Pork Knuckle. Where else can you get Pork Knuckle at only 8 bucks?! They do also serve a few other German dishes like Pork Schnitzel and Bangers & Mash, along with some pastas and light bites. They also have truffle fries! Knuckles’ ordering system involves you heading up to the counter after deciding what to order & paying on the spot, makes things simpler.

Knuckles is also a great spot for beer, offering quite a few brands such as Erdinger, Kilkenny and ciders, Bulmers & Rekorderlig. (Of course, I don’t really drink, so it’s all lost on me. Oops.) Another great fact of Knuckles is that they do NOT charge GST or service charge! (Add that to the list!)

Iced Chocolate ($4) This was pretty nice. And the quantity for the price really makes it worth it.

Truffle Mushroom Spaghetti ($8) This was quite delicious. The truffle cream sauce was great. Even my companion who usually dislikes cream sauce pastas thought it was good.

German Pork Knuckle ($8) THE thing to order at Knuckles. So affordable, I could cry. Comes with mashed potato and Sauerkraut Perfectly crisped skin, tender meat. Of course, the amount is not really a lot, but for the price, you can't argue.

Pork Schnitzel ($8) With Fries, Green Salad Another winner, the Pork Schnitzel was fried just right, and it was pretty huge. Tasted great dipped in the cream sauce.

Grilled Chicken Chop ($8) With Fries, Green Salad Ah, the usual chicken chop. Can't go wrong with this. It was also good, the chicken was tender. Only downside was that it was a tad too charred.

Worth A Visit/Revisit?
Should you visit Knuckles? Most definitely. I highly recommend the place. It has extremely affordable yet delicious German food in a great casual bistro setting. It’s also becoming as popular as their next door neighbour, Nakhon Kitchen. I’m definitely heading back sometime soon to try their Bangers & Mash and Truffle Fries.
